ROCK LAKE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION
Board Meeting Minutes Oct. 13, 2008
Lake Mills Municipal Building, 6:30 p.m.
Call to Order: 6:30 p.m. by Milt. Present - Milt Strauss, Johanna
Chworowsky, Larry Clark, Jim Colegrove, Margaret Krueger, Ron Niedfeldt,
Stan Smoniewski and Patricia Cicero. Guests were Jack Pierson, Tom
Nightingale, Lee Gatzke, Debra Gatzke, Sharon Amann, Bill Amann, Barb
Dawson, Janet Jenrich, Lynn Plotz, Karen Brander, Tom Cianciolo, Nolan
Kollath, Korky Korban and Jean Korban.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes of Sept. 8, 2008 meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Jim said as of Oct. 12, 2008, account balances were
$6,918.27 in RLIA Checking and $4,204.84 in RLIA Savings for overall
total of $11,123.11.
Correspondence: Governor’s residence shoreland restoration-Patricia –
She is a member of the Lake Leaders Institute and asked for a letter of
support for the restoration project to be approved by Gov. Jim Doyle. A
motion was passed to send a RLIA letter of support to be forwarded to
the governor’s office.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Joint Rock Lake Committee: Stan said the committee vote on a proposed
pier ordinance was 2-2 so it did not pass. The proposed pier ordinance
was forwarded to the Lake Mills Town Board with no recommendation. Two
Slow-No-Wake buoys by Elm Point and Korth Park were moved out. A vote
will be taken on the positions after getting quadrants.
Publicity Committee: Johanna said the Fall Festival on Oct. 5 was rained
out. A display at a craft show on Dec. 6 at the Rock Lake Activity
Center is under consideration. The annual membership brochure will be
sent out in February or early spring.
Adopt-A-Lake: Stan said the resource list for schools will be revised.
Management Plan for Rock: No report – Tom Pezzi absent
OLD BUSINESS:
Parking Lot, North End – Patricia said bids were higher than expected so
the rain garden and porous pavement were eliminated. RLIA will consider
contributing funds to reinstate the rain garden.
NEW BUSINESS:
West Channel discussion-Janet Jenrich – Janet asked for the support of
RLIA in obtaining a Lake Planning Grant and Lake Protection Plan for the
channel. A long discussion was held regarding causes of a large amount
of sediment seeping into the channel. Despite testing by Patricia, DNR
personnel, property owners and others, no cause has been determined.
Janet will get bids from consultants and more information will be
gathered before discussion is resumed at the next meeting.
