ROCK LAKE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION
Board Meeting Minutes April 13, 2009
Lake Mills Municipal Building, 6:30 p.m.
Call to Order: Present - Milt Strauss, Larry Clark, Jim Colegrove,
Margaret Krueger, Tom Pezzi and Stan Smoniewski. Guests - Janet Jenrich
and Bob Wardall.
Secretary’s Report: Minutes of March 9, 2009 were approved.
Treasurer’s Report: Jim said as of March 31, 2009, account balances were
$7,594.92 in RLIA checking and $4,229.32 in savings for a total of
$11,824.21.
Correspondence: Jim has received a number of mangled membership
envelopes. Lake Mills Leader will be asked if a different envelope
configuration can be used to minimize mangling. Thank you postcard was
received from Rock River Coalition. Publicity Committee will discuss
using similar glossy postcard for correspondence. RLIA currently has 134
members. Jim sends a thank you to members when dues are paid.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Joint Rock Lake Committee: Stan said letter was sent to Lake Mills City
manager regarding increased traffic at Sandy Beach due to overflow at
north-end parking lot, and inadequate floats of Mill Pond pier; town of
Lake Mills will use launch funds to fund rain garden at north-end
parking lot; town is studying use of bottom ash on roads; grant will be
used for Miljola shoreline restoration.
Publicity Committee: Plans for Town and Country Days are under way;
Committee will discuss use of e-mail addresses for RLIA updates.
ONGOING PROJECTS:
Adopt-A-Lake: Annual Mill Pond clean-up and garlic mustard pull will be
May 9 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Management Plan for Rock Lake: Tom said storm drains will be labeled by
May; boater safety course was not scheduled due to lack of participants.
OLD BUSINESS:
Lake Planning Grant – Larry said the grant was approved April 1 but RLIA
has not yet received written notification. After written notification,
strategy meeting will be scheduled and adjoining property owners to
channel will be contacted for access to property. Updates will be given
to members through media and website.
NEW BUSINESS:
Annual meeting date and location: Annual meeting will be held Aug. 22 at
10 a.m. at Korth Park Shelter. Reservation fee was $100.
Tyranena Ladies Club – Stan will give power point presentation April 23.
Wisconsin Association of Lakes Convention Report – Bob and Milt
attended. Theme was aquatic invasive species. Bob attended a talk on
invasive species and how to stop aquatic hitch-hikers. Milt attended
talks on managing a lake organization, invasive species and insurance.
He said the WAL convention was very helpful.
